PULSE! 2.0
2020 marks the 10th anniversary of Joss Arnott Dance.
Over the year we had a number of events planned, including the re-tour of PULSE! our dance and live music outdoor experience and the premiere of a new triple bill evening of work, set to tour across the UK.
Due to COVID-19, all our needs, priorities and values have changed drastically. We are currently living in uncertain times, unknown territories within new parameters and now more than ever before are craving connections and a chance to share moments with our loved ones and communities. With this in mind and through the support of Arts Council England’s Emergency Response Fund, we have created a new PULSE! – DANCE:CONNECTS – PULSE! 2.0.
What is DANCE:CONNECTS – PULSE! 2.0?
DANCE:CONNECTS- PULSE! 2.0 is a repurposed, choreographic response to PULSE!, originally inspired by Artistic Director Joss Arnott’s fascination with how as humans we create a series of connections that unite us through movement and music.
For this programme of work, we have produced two newly commissioned dance films – PULSE! 2.0 which features 23 professional dance artists who worked with Joss Arnott to learn the new PULSE! 2.0 repertoire and create their own response to the movement and new music score.
Our second film, DANCE:CONNECTS – PULSE! 2.0 built on the connections made between local, regional and national communities in times of transformation change and is inspired by the need for society to continue that connection in our new world.
The response celebrates these connections, empowering an array of dancers: children, families, professional dance artists, young and elderly people, including those new to dance from a range of communities to create a social connection through movement and music.
Both films map everyone’s performance and celebrates that unified connection.
Through this programme of activity, JAD were able to engage with dancers of all ages from across the world including Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the USA through live online workshops and accessible, pre-recorded Learn at Home videos.
WHEN?
The mass isolation online flash mob took take place on Thursday 2nd July 2020, 19:30 (GMT) with hundreds of people across the UK and overseas engaging with the activity.
Each participant was invited to go live on social media under the #JADPULSE hashtag or record themselves performing the choreography and post their video. We then asked all participants to send us a recording or section of the performance to produce the DANCE:CONNECTS – PULSE! 2.0 films.
Supported using public funding through Arts Council England’s Emergency Response Fund. Commissioned by Pavilion Dance South West
