Sasha Gunning
DANCER
Sasha is a Czech/British dual national and grew up in Yorkshire where she completed all of her dance training before Emergence. She began dancing at the age of 3 at her local dance school on the top floor of a pub in the town she grew up in, in East Yorkshire. She began with ballet and tap lessons, later also training in modern jazz. She was introduced to contemporary when she began her training with Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Youth Academy, a few years before her BA. Prior to her BA she also trained with SLP College, Ballet Boost Associates, and joined the CAT Scheme at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance where she later earned a place on the degree course.
During her training, she has performed works by Alleyne Dance, Sandrine Monin, Antonio Bukhar Ssebuuma, Imogen Reeve and Joseph Mercier amongst others. A highlight of her training at Northern was her graduation show, performing the first restaging of “Grand Finale” by Hofesh Shechter Company (rehearsed by Erion Kruja).
Sasha is very excited to begin her journey with Emergence, learning more of the northern dance scene, refining her practice, staying curious and open-minded, upskilling and exploring creatively with a hugely talented group of artists.
Outside of the studio Sasha enjoys hiking, crochet, cooking/baking and spending time with friends and loved ones.
