Born and raised in Bologna, Italy, Martina began her dance training aged 5 at her local school Mousikè/Giravolta, where she trained in RAD Ballet to advance foundation level and in contemporary release based dance.
When she was 15 she joined Phren, a youth dance company based on the exploration of outdoor spaces and mainly site-specific dance work. Whilst in the company she performed at the Danza Urbana Festival and Ammutinamenti.
During this time, she had the opportunity to participate at different workshops and intensives with choreographers such as Francesca Pennini, Elita Cannata, Matthew Palace, Fabrizio Monteverde, Bruce Michelson and Luke Ganz.
In 2016 Martina performed ‘Il viaggio della Pigotta’, made in cooperation with UNICEF and staged at Teatro Comunale Bologna.
At the age of 19, Martina joined London Contemporary Dance School where she graduated with a First-Class BA (Hons) Degree. Whilst there she had the pleasure of performing works choreographed by Ohad Nahrin/Chisato Ohno, Richard Alston/Kate Price and Carolyn Bolton.
During her third year she did an intensive with Hofesh Shechter Company, led by the company member Yeji Kim, working every day to re-stage ‘tHE bAD’ and present it at The Place Theatre. For her final graduation piece, she also took part in performing work by Jamaal Burkmar, a “semi improvised exploration of the absurd” created in collaboration with the dancers. A highlight for her while studying here was being selected to perform with Theo Adams Company for Paloma Faith and Jonas Blue during The Greatest Dancer final, on the BBC television show (2020).
Besides dance, Martina enjoys exploring fields such as videography, photography, social media and other ways to communicate within the dance world and to link all the different artists. She loves Frozen (especially in love with Elsa), cats, chocolate and everything that has sparkles on.
