KATO THOMAS

DANCER

Born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium, Kato was bitten by the dance bug at an early age. Initially starting in ballet, she quickly started taking on a variety of dance styles and joined her local dance school’s competition teams. After graduating high school with a diploma in science and modern languages, Kato moved to London to start her professional dance training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

In 2022 she graduated from her bachelor’s degree with a First-Class Honours. During her degree she had the experience to work with, and perform works by Candoco Associated Artist Joel Brown, Charles Linehan and Sarah Wookey for a re-imagining of Yvonne Rainer’s ‘Diagonal’. As a part of her third-year work placement, Kato had the opportunity to dance with Bodies In Action in their production ‘Imposter’. Kato performed alongside Jordan Boyle and Julian Nichols at Fieldworks in London, and later restaged at The Place as a part of the Resolutions festival for new choreography.

Outside of dance, Kato is inspired by other art forms such as film, photography and fashion, which she explores cross-disciplinary in her creative research.
