Antea Buro
DANCER
Born in Italy, after the Liceo Classico and professional training in ballet and contemporary dance, Antea has been the first student who attended a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Classics and Dance Studies at University of Malta, achieving a First Class Degree and being listed on the Dean’s List of the Faculty of Arts 2024. She covered the role of Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the 2023-2024 Executive Board of USPA, University Student Association of the School of Performing Arts of University of Malta.
Antea’s field of research concerns the relationship between word and movement, investigating movement’s power of concreteness through improvisation. In this respect she developed the Practice and Research choreographic project “How long does the movement last?” (2024) and took part in the first undergraduate panel at the 10th School of Performing Arts Conference 2024 “Subject/Object/Practice/Place” delivering a speech about her experimental dance film “Ancient Values” (2023).
During her studies, Antea danced creations by Eszter Gál (Hungary), Justin Roy Barker (UK/Malta), Paula Guzzanti (Argentina) and by the emerging choreographers Noémi Piller (Hungary), and Mel Sielańczyk (Poland). She also took part in the interdisciplinary collaborative project The Caligari Experience within the Three Palaces Festival 2023, produced by Compass Company (Bristol, UK) and she danced choreographies by Ido Gidron (Israel) and Justin Roy Barker (UK/Malta) in the production M.A.D. – Music and Dance within the Malta International Arts Festival.
In 2024 she participated in the Erasmus + Blended Intensive Programme “Collaborative work between Science, Art and Creation” promoted by University of Seas SEA-EU at Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO) in Brest (France), dancing the creation GENESIS; Growth and Transformation by Elisabeth Schwartz within the Festival Ressac.
