Celebrating our 15th anniversary, Joss Arnott Dance (JAD) are seeking a professional, freelance designer to create, source and produce an original costume for our new dance and multimedia production “Meet the Hatter” touring from Autumn 2025.
This role will work closely with the Artistic Director to conceive and design imaginative costumes complimentary of the style and aesthetic of the production.
We are looking for a passionate, eager person with strong design and communication skills, someone who is creative, committed and wants to work with Joss Arnott Dance.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Some key responsibilities and requirements include;
- Consulting with the Artistic Director and creative team on the visual concept of the costume.
- Designing and producing/making original costumes for the performer. (2x dancers for leading Hatter role (double-casted), same costume design).
- Working both remotely and in the studio/theatre with the creative team where necessary.
- Ensuring the designs are of a professional standard at the highest quality.
- To provide design ideas during regular intervals throughout the R&D and creation process.
- Ensuring the designs are complimentary of the production’s artistic vision.
- Attending events where necessary, to be negotiated in advance.
- Meeting deadlines when required.
FEES – The payment for this post will be negotiated in advance before a contract is issued, plus payment of any expenses if required to travel outside of the specified working location (negotiated alongside the contract).
Please note, JAD are a fair pay organisation, working with industry guidance from equity and unions to ensure pay and fees are in line with industry standards.
If an additional collaborator is required to produce/make the costumes this can be discussed at interview stage. Please state preference in application.
