Emma was born in Greater Manchester, and grew up in North Yorkshire. From an early age she danced with Northern Dance Centre, Skipton and she completed her time there as Head Girl. The school has a particular focus on the world of Folk Dance and Emma was part of an award-winning performance group.
Emma’s passionate interest in contemporary dance began with seeing Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet on her 16th birthday. Going on to train at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Emma worked with choreographers including Gavin Coward, Hetain Patel, Susanne Thomas and Anna Williams. She graduated from NSCD with a First-Class Honours degree in 2018.
Outside of dance performance, Emma has a strong interest in writing, particularly on psychology, feminism and politics. She is currently taking part in a theatre critics’ mentorship programme in Manchester.
